  • "I wouldn’t be in school if it weren’t for the College Promise. As a nontraditional student, I pay for everything myself while working to earn an education. The financial burden is overwhelming and, for far too long, has effectively gatekept higher education from working-class students."

    Los Angeles City College Student

  • "I had to cut my work hours in order to attend school full time, as it wasn’t possible to work five days a week while maintaining a full-time course load. As a result, my pay has decreased by approximately $500 due to the reduced hours."

    East Los Angeles College Student

  • "In order to receive the benefits of the Promise Program, I must be enrolled in twelve or more units at a time. This requirement makes school my primary priority—something I am fortunate to be able to do. However, many students do not have that option, as financial responsibilities prevent them from making school their main focus."
